Iowa firefighters train for grain elevator emergency

KINGSLEY, Iowa (KTIV) - With harvest right around the corner for most farmers, it's important to know what to do in an ag-related emergency.

On Tuesday, the Kingsley, Iowa, volunteer fire department got to train on how they'd respond if a farmer was trapped by grain.

They have brand new equipment called entrapment tubes that help with the simulation.

The tube is put in the grain, around the individual who may be trapped. It prevents the grain from suffocating them.

Volunteer firefighters, elevator employees and many others all took part in the drill.

The Farmer's Cooperative Elevator, in Kingsley, helped buy the grain entrapment tubes used in the training. They received matching funds from Land O' Lakes and CoBank.
